 DESTINATION MOON: THE APOLLO 11 MISSION

 HOW PITTSBURGH HELPED PUT A MAN ON THE MOON

 

 

Who: Members, Friends and Scholars

Why: Did you know American Rockwell, Westinghouse, Alcoa, Wabtec's Union Switch & Signal, American Bridge Company, MSA and Allegheny Ludlum all played a role putting the first man on the moon? Hear about the many Pittsburgh contributions to Apollo 11's historic moon landing during its 50th anniversary.  Learn more...

Date: Thursday, January 24, 2019

Time: Tour at 11:45 PM followed by an optional lunch at 1:00 PM

Where: Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Cost: Admission $16

Optional lunch $12 -  Choose from 1 of 3 Gourmet boxed lunches from Common Plea catering 

Parking: Complimentary and across the street from the museum

Agenda

*Start on the 7th floor for a meet and greet. 

*Then head back down to the 1st floor with an exhibit tour led by Andy Masich, President and CEO of the Senator John Heinz History Center, a Smithsonian affiliate, Pittsburgh’s oldest cultural institution, and Pennsylvania’s largest history museum. 

**New** We will be joined by Alex Valentine, who was charge of the mapping of the moon for the lunar landing, for both the tour and lunch.

*Followed by lunch in the 7th floor Board Room 

Lunch includes bottled water, (choice of Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite/Sweet Tea) and 

Choose one of the following Common Plea Gourmet Boxed Salads

Lunch 1: Grilled Vegetables - Layered eggplant, squash, peppers, onions, baby carrots, fingering potatoes, and black bean dressing with toasted pita chips.

Lunch 2: California Cobb - Grilled chicken breast, avocado, red peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, artichokes and creamy cilantro blue cheese dressing with toasted pita chips.

Lunch 3: Bistro Tender Steak - Roasted red skin potatoes, olives, grilled tomatoes, red onions, crisp romaine, marinated mushrooms and balsamic dressing with a pretzel roll.
