ARCS Pittsburgh Legacy Society

FACT SHEET

It is always a good time to consider including ARCS Foundation, Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter (ARCS Pittsburgh) in your future charitable giving plans. The Chapter created its Legacy Society as a vehicle for generous donors wishing to make a gift in their estate plans in support of future Scholar Awards through our Endowed Award program. Such gifts are particularly valuable because they provide funding in perpetuity to support those students most capable of innovative research in science, engineering and medicine.

A Perpetual Gift
With a gift of the then-current amount needed to establish an Endowed Award in line with our Endowed Award Policy, the Chapter will create an endowment in the donor’s name at either the University of Pittsburgh or at Carnegie Mellon University. If the gift is less than is required for a full endowed award, the contribution will be added to a general Legacy Fund to create an endowed award when sufficient funds are available. Thanks to the forethought and generosity of these donors, the Chapter can continue to support future generations of scientists, engineers and medical researchers, thereby building America’s leadership capacity for scientific discovery.

Planning Your Future Gift
You should always consult with your legal counsel for specific tax advice in establishing a bequest of any kind, but here are some options you may want to consider.
*Make a planned gift to the ARCS Foundation, Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter in your will or trust. You can indicate a specific dollar amount for your gift or leave a percentage of your estate.
*Donate retirement assets. You can designate ARCS Foundation, Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or IRA. Remember that unlike charitable gifts made from taxable assets charitable gifts from retirement assets generate NO taxable income to the estate and thus reduce potential income tax due on the estate proceeds.
*Donate a Life insurance policy. You can donate a paid-up policy that is no longer needed, or name ARCS Foundation, Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter as a beneficiary. Bequests of any amount are welcome and appreciated and all members of the ARCS Pittsburgh Legacy Society
will be acknowledged in ARCS Pittsburgh Chapter materials, unless they wish to remain anonymous.
