Dear ARCS Pittsburgh Chapter Members,

U.S News and World Report recently published its annual Graduate School Rankings for 2016.  We are fortunate to have 3 of the top-ranked universities in the science and technology fields to educate our ARCS scholars right in our backyards. Penn State University, The University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University each have top-ranked programs which provide our ARCS scholars with the best opportunities to excel in their chosen fields of study.

Penn State University is ranked #6 overall in Earth Sciences with Geology ranked #1, Geochemistry #2, and Environmental Sciences #2 among specialties.  Penn State also ranks #5 in Nuclear Engineering and #10 in Cosmology/Relativity/Gravity.

The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine is ranked #16 in the nation for medical research including specialties in Women’s Health ranked #4 and Geriatric research #10 overall.

Carnegie Mellon University’s Computer Science program ranks #1 overall in the nation with specialties in Programming Language ranked #1 and Artificial Intelligence #2.  The graduate program in Engineering is ranked #4 overall with Environmental Engineering and Environmental Health Engineering ranked #7 among specialties.
